Any DJ already knows that getting the right kind of equipment is crucial to the work they do. The turntable, headphones, Mixer, speakers, and everything else you will need has to be carefully selected; otherwise you will end up with a lot of equipment that doesn’t work well together and won’t give you the kind of reputation you are looking for. Before you can start shopping for everything that you need, you will want to think about whether or not your set up is going to include turntables. There are a lot of DJ’s out there that have them, but some do not. It all depends on what you want your set up to be like. It’s important to realize that you can do different things with different pieces of equipment.

A basic set up for a DJ will include headphones, a microphone, high-quality stereo cables for enhanced sound, a mixer, amp, and laptop. These are just the basic requirements that you will need to get. The Turntable that you purchase should be able to create the kind of effects that you have in mind as well as having a strong motor to spin each record. They can get pretty expensive, so be prepared to pay a few hundred dollars for a decent turntable. While the price might seem steep at first, you will be thankful that you got a good one.

As for the laptop that you buy, you should get one that has plenty of memory. This is one piece of equipment that has come down in price but make sure to get a large hard drive. Keep in mind that there are a lot of different laptops out there to choose from, so take your time before deciding. It also might be a good idea to get an external hard drive for your laptop so you will have something extra to store songs on. After a while they can really start to pile up on your hard drive, so make sure you always have a back up for extras with you. Not every DJ decides to go digital, but if you plan on using mp3s you will need to get a laptop.

When you are shopping for a new mixer, you will want one that connects via USB. It will be much easier to charge it this way and you will be able to use software on your computer to make certain changes to the programmable settings. With most USB mixers no extra cords are necessary, so you can keep things nice and clutter-free. You can also usually hook it up to the stereo that you have at home if you don’t have professional speakers yet. Although it is okay to put off getting nice speakers for a while, you will want to pick yourself up a pair eventually. The amplifiers that you get for your set up are also going to be important. Make sure that whatever ones you get, they are able to produce around 1.5 times what the recommended RMS wattage is. This way you will be able to get as much power and sound quality from your amps as possible. When you consider all of these things, you will be able to get the best DJ equipment for your own set up.
